Takayasu's arteritis is an uncommon form of vasculitis, a category of disease that cause inflammation of blood vessels. The inflammation in Takayasu's arteritis destroys the big artery that transports blood from your heart to the rest of your body (aorta) and its principal branches. The illness can cause narrowing or blocking of arteries, as well as weakening arterial walls that can bulge (aneurysm) and tear. It can also cause arm or chest pain, high blood pressure, and, in the worst-case scenario, heart failure or stroke. If you have no symptoms, you may not require therapy. However, most persons with the illness require drugs to control artery inflammation and prevent consequences. Relapses are common even with treatment, and your symptoms may come and go. Seek medical assistance right away if you have shortness of breath, chest or arm pain, or signs of a stroke, such as face drooping, arm paralysis, or difficulty speaking. If you see any other signs or symptoms that concern you, make an appointment with your doctor. Early identification of Takayasu's arteritis is critical for successful treatment.
